Emily Bobon Gottschalk
Founder Of Gottschalk Music Center


Emily B. Gottschalk passed away August 18th at the Alexander Cohen Hospice House in Hughson. She was born April 17, 1919 in Passaic, New Jersey, the oldest of six children. Her family settled in southern Michigan. In 1936, Emily married John F. Gottschalk and together opened Gottschalk Music House and Gottschalk School of Aeronautics. She received her pilot's license and became primary flight instructor for Air Force trainees during World War II. Emily and her family moved to Modesto in 1951 and established Gottschalk Music Center in the Gilbert Roach Piano Store. In 1952 the business moved to its current location on Burney Street. During the mid 1960's, Emily and her husband opened Gottschalk Music Center Flight Club in Modesto, eventually expanding the club to seven branches throughout California. Emily was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, John. She is survived by her brother, John Bobon, of Hudson, Michigan, her children CK Gottschalk (Roberta) of Oakdale, Robert Gottschalk (Jackie) of Stockton, Kathryn Holloway (Bob) of Turlock, and Terilyn Gonchar (Gary) of Modesto, as well as six grandchildren.
